This project upgraded a basement plantroom, replacing outdated boilers with a Vaillant Ecotec cascade system, achieving up to 40% energy savings. Challenges included removing heavy equipment and installing a custom flue system, resulting in a more efficient, reliable, and safe system.
This project involved a comprehensive refurbishment of a basement plantroom, where outdated heating equipment was replaced with modern, highly efficient systems. The primary challenge was to safely remove and replace all existing plant, which included three Ideal Concord CX240 boilers, along with the associated pipework, valves, and electrics, all within a confined and restrictive space. Throughout the process, we worked diligently to ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding areas, keeping downtime to a minimum.
The new installation featured three advanced Vaillant Ecotec 80kW condensing boilers arranged in a cascade system, complemented by a low-loss plate heat exchanger. This setup not only protected the boilers but also maximised system efficiency, providing a significant upgrade. Furthermore, the system was enhanced with cutting-edge weather-compensated controls, designed to optimise performance and deliver up to 40% energy savings, contributing to both cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
Key challenges included the careful stripping out of heavy and redundant equipment, the design and installation of a bespoke stainless steel condenser flue system, and the complex task of upgrading the electrical infrastructure to support the modernised plantroom. The tight space required meticulous planning and coordination to ensure everything was fitted precisely and safely.
Despite these complexities, we successfully delivered a fully commissioned system that met all performance, safety, and reliability benchmarks. The upgraded plantroom now operates with enhanced energy efficiency, providing greater reliability while meeting all client expectations and ensuring full compliance with industry standards.
